Scar Massage

While scar desensitisation addresses your scar healing on the skin and neural level, scar massage addresses the healing of tissue below the surface. Both are incredibly important in your healing.

During the C-section operation, your doctor cut through multiple layers of tissue (including connective tissue). Like any other operation, your body goes into overdrive, laying down collagen fibers (aka scar tissue). This is an AMAZING thing our body does to heal, BUT an overproduction of scar tissue left to its own devices causes the tissue around it to bunch up. This is where A LOT of postpartum issues come in.

You most likely have scar tissue all the way to the level of your uterus, and it is causing the tissue around it on every layer to bunch up and stick together. Over time, this can lead to complications of lower back pain, bladder issues, pain during sex, and movement restrictions.

Doing scar massage to the area breaks down excessive scar tissue and restores movement, mobility, and healthy gliding of the connective tissues around the area.

This can be done at home on your bed, start with bent legs (feet on the bed), and use a tiny little bit of cream or coconut oil.

Steps:

  • Start at the belly button and work AROUND the scar site. Don’t go directly over your scar site just yet.

  • Push tissue towards the scar, pull tissue away from the scar, press lightly, and move fingers in small circles

  • This should not cause bleeding or be painful at all. Think small, light movements.
